School of Continuing Education & Skilled Trades

The School of Continuing Education and Skilled Trades is housed at the McRae Campus in Peterborough. Skilled Trades at Fleming are all about combining hands-on education on the latest techniques with classroom theory. You will find a wide variety of apprenticeship programs here as well as apprentice exemption testing in most trades. And in response to the shortage of skilled trade workers Fleming offers 2-semester full-time certificates in Construction Skills, in Electrical Techniques and in Welding to get you into the job market fast or prepare you to pursue an apprenticeship.

The School of Continuing Education offers programs and courses to enhance both your career and your leisure. Career courses cover a wide range of industries, such as health care, business, trades, computers and more. While most courses are delivered on a part-time basis in the evening or on weekends, Fleming also offers full-time fast-track certificates that allow you to acquire skills for a new career in as little as 4 weeks. Among these are the topical Welding Fundamentals, Hospital Ward Secretary, Workplace Computer Skills and Website Design.

If you're in the mood to fill your spare time with some fun, then you will find a large selection of courses to choose from, covering subjects like foreign languages, cooking skills, computer skills (including the new Animation course), dancing, crafts, managing personal finances, outdoor skills and even home repair techniques. These courses can bring you new friends and new skills. With new kids courses, why not enrol the whole family?

Apprenticeship Exemption Testing

We are pleased to offer Apprenticeship Exemption Testing in most trades. A successful exemption test will allow the candidate to be exempt from the in-school portion of apprenticeship in a particular trade. Tests are available to registered apprentices and those who, while not registered, have trade experience.
