Accessing Student Information

Fleming College encourages parents and guardians to support their sons and daughters throughout their time with us. Parents/guardians are reminded that the student carries full responsibility for the choices he or she makes and for any consequences arising from those choices. All records, both of academic and personal nature, are strictly confidential, with no release of information available without the students written consent. The basic guideline governing the release of information is based on the Freedom of Information and Protection of Individual Privacy Act. This Act does not allow us to give out any information about a student to anyone other than the student. This includes information regarding a student’s application, grades, attendance, financial standing or residence standing. In addition to requests from parents/guardians, the same applies to requests from prospective employers, police forces, credit bureaus, banks and other education institutions. Students may access their own files at the Admissions and Records office; photo identification is required.

Personal Safety

Safe-walk programs are available to walk students to their car or residence; students go to the Information/Security Kiosk or call extension 8000. Security cameras are in operation in various public areas of the buildings to deter both assault and theft. There are also emergency telephones located on the path between the residence and the campus.

Firearms and weapons, of any type, are prohibited anywhere on College property. The College has a comprehensive emergency plan in place.

  • Fire Evacuation:
The College conducts fire drills regularly. Fire refuge areas for the disabled are located at various points throughout the buildings, since elevators are shut down during an alarm.
  • Physical Hazards:
Students are required to wear personal protective equipment as designated in labs.

Safety at Residence

Fleming strives to provide a safe and secure environment and is dedicated to promoting safety in the residence and on the campus. External doors to the residence are locked 24 hours a day. Individuals who live in the residence need their keys to enter at all times. Guests may enter the residence provided that they are accompanied by a resident and have an appropriate guest pass. On a rotational basis, our Residence Life Staff are available 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies and disturbances within the building.

Academic Regulations

Academic Regulations cover policies such as the Grading System, Appeal of Academic Process, Formal Appeals Process, Academic Review, Withdrawals, Academic Integrity, Academic Behaviour and Plagiarism.

Health Centres

Each main campus has on-site health services. A registered nurse is available weekdays and physicians are available by appointment. Emergency health services are also available in the community.

Patient information is confidential. As is the case with all health providers in the province, a valid Health Card, which must be presented each time before receiving treatment, is required.

Student Health Plan

Full-time students at Fleming are automatically covered by a comprehensive Health Plan managed by the SA/C that includes: dental, prescription medication, ambulance, accidental dental, tutorial services for an unexpected health leave, out of province coverage and supplementary health care. Dependants may be added at a reasonable cost. Part-time students are eligible to enroll in the student health plan and will be considered on a case to case basis.

If full-time students can provide proof of existing coverage under a parent’s plan, the Health Plan fee will be waived.

Jobs On Campus

Jobs on campus include working for Fleming College in the Liaison Department, Admissions, Data Research, Peer Tutoring, the Library and other support services. More than 160 students work on campus each semester. For more information contact our Career and Employment Resources Office.

Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Student Rights and Responsibilities policy incorporates many of the principles that have been understood and practiced at Fleming College. Most essential in these rights is the student’s right to learn. Other rights include the provision of a safe, confidential, hazard free and respectful learning environment where students are well informed about their rights and the rules and regulations of the College. The most important responsibility students have is to actively take responsibility for their own learning, supporting and promoting an environment that is conducive to learning for all.

Note: Students can find the complete Academic Regulations and the Student Rights and Responsibilities policy within their Student Portal under Fleming Bookmarks
